Plant Pet is an embedded systems approach to gamifying the care of house plants. By acting as an aid, rather than a replacement for the hobby, the user is able to continue reaping the psychological benefits of plant care. This project combines a Raspberry Pi with a touch screen and an array of environmental sensors to give feedback about a house plant’s status, which can also be read from a locally hosted webpage. This status is determined by comparison of measurements taken by the sensors and user selected parameter ranges, and then it is presented through fun artistically rendered character images that give description to the plant’s current state.
