The instrument in this photograph is Kelsh stereoplotter. A student, Jon Pattinson, is viewing a 3D model generated from light passing through aerial photo negatives above the instrument. The anaglyphic viewing technique using red and blue lens glasses was employed. This was the technology used to compile all of the USGS 15-minute topographic maps of the nation
