Existing music hardware is simple but expensive. Existing music software is complicated but cheap. A small, portable, and cheap device is the ideal solution to provide beginners with an opportunity to get started in making music. That device is our audio sampler. It can record audio and save it for playback using a 4x8 grid of pads and four parameter control knobs. It uses a STM32MP157F-DK2 development board as the brains of the operation, four KY-040 rotary encoders for the knobs, and two 4x4 grids of pads; one for the "drums" and the other for board operations. Each pad can hold 20 seconds of audio, which can have the volumes and start and end times adjusted with the knobs.
