About 1926, Klamath Ice Company drilled a well on their property at 661 Spring Street, Klamath Falls. The intended purpose was to obtain water for making ice, cooling ammonia condensers, and to reduce the monthly city water bill. There is some doubt about the final depth of the well - the owner and well driller recalling something just over 800 ft while the state records show 1100 ft. All parties agree that the entire depth was through sedimentary tuff (chalk rock) except for 2 feet at 800 to 802 feet where the only water flow was encountered. The flow was artesian of about 5 gal. per min. at the casing top with a head of 6 feet, and temperature of 131°F
