The present energy consumption in Poland amounts to 5,300 PJ/year (P = 10). The potential for energy production from renewable resources amounts to 450 -540 PJ/year of which 260 - 280 PJ/year could come from low temperature geothermal energy, i.e., 5% of present annual energy needs of the country. The regions of Szczecin, Mogihio and Lodz Basin correspond to the most promising areas in Poland from the point of view of usable geothermal potential. These regions have considerable discharges of geothermal water, low salinity in some localities (8,000 to 20,000 mg/L), and relatively low geothermal gradients. The necessity to drill to depths of about 2,000 m connected with high capital expenditures, require detailed technical and economic analyses of various methods of geothermal energy utilization in order to find the optimal solutions
