The Cerro Prieto Geothermoelectrical project is the result of the team work of the General Managements of Planning and Program, Construction, and Operation of the Comision Federal de Electricidad. The General Management of Planning and Program, through its Department of Geothermal Resources, is in charge of the research, development and Maintenance of the wells and of the geothermal fields as a whole. The General Management of Construction is in charge of the project and of the direction and supervision of the civil engineering works and of the assembly of the geothermoelectric plant. The General Management of Operation is in charge of the control of the generating- plant operation and of the distribution of electricity to help meet the demand in the State of Baja California.
In the realization of the project as well as in the supply of equipment and materials Mexican as well as American, British, Japanese, Belgian, Swiss, Italian and French companies entered. The Comision Federal De Electricidad is a descentralized government official agency, in charge of power generation in Mexico; which has commenced, starting in 1950, the studies towards the exploitation of this resource in the thermal zones of the country; which studies crystalize today in the first commercial geothermal power plan in Latinamerica: the geothermoelectric project of Cerro Prieto,Baja California, which reinforces the supply of power for the State of Baja California
