The known and developed geothermal aquifer in Vale, Oregon underlies an area of about 40 acres. There are several users of geothermal water in the area ranging from single family residences to large industrial users. The largest user pumps about 250 gallons per minute continuously. Most of the water produced is injected into two wells after use, with the remainder discharged into the Malheur River. Current injection practices do not appear to be benefiting the producing aquifer. Effluent injected into one well appears to be leaking back to the surface not far from the well. Injection into the other well may be lowering temperature in part of the developed area. The hydrogeology characteristics of the developed area may be such that injection is not practical
