The emergence of Oregon's geothermal resources as one of the state's key alternate energies suggests that this vast and renewable energy resource is continuing its steady gains in discovery and utilization. Although several geothermal resource areas in Oregon may have electric generation potential, there is neither an operating geothermal power plant nor any pending proposal for such a plant in the state. This situation will very likely change in the near future, given the state's high as well as low-temperature resource potential and the continuing public and private resource assessment and exploration activities underway throughout the state
