Lakeview, Oregon, is a rural town of 3,000 people about 40.2 kilometers (25 miles) from the state borders of Oregon, Nevada, and California. It serves as the county seat of Lake County which has an area about the same as the state of Massachusetts. Relative isolation [about 161 kilometers (100 miles) east of Klamath Falls, 241 kilometers (150 miles) southeast of Bend] has accumulated in Lakeview in many government offices at the federal, state, and local level. The high elevation and south-central location creates an arid and cold but sunny climate unlike anything west of the Cascade Mountains. The town is located hard against a front range mountain fault on the east ledge of Warner Valley
