Albany General hospital is an acute care general hospital of 106 beds that serves a population of about 50,000 in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The first half of the four-story hospital was completed in 1966. Work on the second-phase addition lasted from 1971 until 1973. The buildings constructed of steel framework, insulated concrete panels and single-glazed windows. Total floor space is nearly 116,000 square feet. Two boilers fueled by natural gas supply heat; prior to the retrofit, air conditioning was provided from two absorption chillers. As of 1979, Albany General Hospital used 724,000 Btu's per square foot annually, with 53 percent of this energy provided by natural gas and the remaining 47 percent by electricity
