Taupo Lucerne Limited was formed in 1972 to develop the use of geothermal steam and hot water for drying fibrous agricultural crops. The plant is located at Broadlands, approximately thirty (30) km northeast of Taupo in the central North Island of New Zealand, on a four (4) hectare site adjacent to the Ohaaki Geothermal Power Development. The Ohaaki power development is operated by ECNZ (Electricity Corporation of New Zealand) who supply the Broadlands Lucerne Company with all geothermal fluids. High pressure steam (8 bar) is separated onsite, supplied as two-phase fluid from the stations production well system. Separated hot water from the Ohaaki power station’s reinjection system is also utilized
