Tap water and building materials can be sources of radon indoors, but the main mechanism for radon entry into most houses is the movement of soil gases - containing radon into the building. Radon seeps into a home through cracks in basement floors or porous cinderblock. It can enter around loose-fitting drainage pipes or through sump pumps. Pressure differential between the house and the soil surrounding its foundation can draw soil gases into the house
