Experiments involving shock spalling in rock are described. Also included are the application of electron beams to the excavation of rock tunnels, characteristics of particle beams for rock spalling, hypothetical drilling systems based on particle beams, and potential economics of particle beam drilling. There is no indication that particle beam drilling will be less expensive than conventional drilling (MHR)
