In North West Himalaya, newly found geothermal resources in the, states of Janmu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh have been successfully utilised in experimental endeavours on space heating at Puga and Glass House cultivation at Chumathang. As a third line of utilisation of geothermal energy, a proposal for a pilot scale refrigeration plant, using geothermal fluids at Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh, is currently under examination. The details of the three experimental endeavours in the utilisation of geothermal resources are described below.
