This brief report provides examples of the initial application and assessment of the WELC microcomputer programme for the pre-feasibility cost esttmating of U.K. low-enthalpy geothermal wells. Some of the major factors which influence results from this programme are investigated and other sensitivities are examined. Comparison of estimated results, derived with the programme, and actual costs for a recently completed U.K. geothermal well suggests that the WELC procedure provides a reasonably reliable guide to well cost
