The overall objective of the Heat Cycle Research Program, which is being conducted for the Department of Energy, is to develop technology for effecting improved utilization of moderate temperature geothermal resources. Major thrusts of the effort are directed toward: (1) advances in binary cycle technology, (2) development of direct-contact heat exchanger technology for use in applications with resources having high corrosion or scaling potential, and (3) special studies including value analyses for estimating economic advantages of plant improvement concepts and studies of other energy conversion cycles. Some background information relative to the program is presented; the progress and program results to date are summarized; the current effort is discussed briefly; and finally some plans for future tasks are outlined
