The U.S. Department of Energy - Geothermal Division (DOE/GD) started a new two-year program in 1992 to encourage wider use of low-temperature geothermal resources. Two main objectives of the program are: (1) to update and compile databases for wells and springs in 10 western states with temperature ranges of 200 to 150°C, and (2) to collect and interpret information on utility geothermal heat pump programs and energy use patterns of typical residential and commercial installations, along with energy savings and lifecycle costs
