Renewable energy efforts received a boost as Rep. Phil Sharp (D-Ind.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Energy and Power Subcommittee, introduced the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technology Competitiveness Act of 1989. The bill, originally introduced last year, seeks to bolster the commercialization and international competitiveness of U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, Sharp said, adding: "Renewable energy and energy efficiency have been the neglected stepchildren of our national energy policy"
