Corrosion of heat exchangers and pipe casings was the subject of some work this past summer, performed by Geo-Heat Center Personnel, under a research contract from E.R.D.A. as administered by Aerojet Nuclear Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The amount of corrosion varies greatly in the Klamath area as indicated by the frequency with which wells must have the pipe removed and replaced. The pipe in question is placed down hot wells in order to transfer useable heat to a home or business. Replacement is necessary from one to thirty or more years, with an average life of approximately fourteen years
