This book was originally printed by the Department of the Interior in smaller form, and had a limited distribution. It is now adopted for use as a landscape primer in project training, and for a text in the camp educational program as well, and is reprinted uniform with the other texts in the Project Training Series. To preserve the original form as nearly as possible, the original plates are used, and the original cover is retained as a fly leaf. While it must be emphasized that this presents only the rudiments of the subject, and that only a beginning can be made in camp in this profession, it is well to know that the text was written by one of the foremost landscape architects in this county, and is above question on any essential point. Both instructor and student may derive confidence from this fact. Dr. Prank Albert Waugh. received his B.S., M.S., and D.Sc. degrees at Kansas State College. He continued his studies at Cornell University and in Germany and has several honorary degrees. He began teaching at Massachusetts State College in 1902, and is now head of the Landscape Department. He is a member of many societies, widely known in this and foreign countries, and is listed in “Who’s Who in America". His numerous books are on horticulture, rural improvement, outdoor theatres, shrubs, gardening and landscaping. He served as Captain, Sanitary Corps, U.S.A., during the World War and now collaborates with the U. S. Forest Service as Landscape Engineer.
