We examined the effects of multiple exemplar training to teach children with autism to identify and respond appropriately to appropriate and inappropriate behaviors presented by strangers and friends, as well as to identify which behaviors are appropriate with family only. The results indicated that the training was effective for all three participants in discriminating if the person was a stranger, friend, or family, as well as identifying which behaviors are appropriate or inappropriate with that person, and how to appropriately respond if that person asked the participant to do something that wasn’t appropriate. All participants also demonstrated generalization and maintenance of the mastered skills.
