With the Oregon Institute of Technology’s (Oregon Tech’s) drive to remain at the forefront of the renewable energy field, the installation of a microgrid to control campus energy generation facilities and the electricity distribution network is a necessary next step. This project followed the Continuously Optimized Reliable Energy (CORE™) microgrid design process developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to design and determine the feasibility of an Oregon Tech – Klamath Falls campus microgrid. Since little documentation of detailed plans or evaluations of microgrid projects exist for public consumption, this project provides an outline of this design process, including where client input is required, and a general study of the viability of a campus microgrid.
