HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. This project aims to determine if a dental-centered HPV program is a viable option in dental professional's opinions and offers an informative class to those who want to further their knowledge about the HPV vaccine. The participants in this study include dental professionals practicing at One Community Health in Oregon. This study used pre- and post-interventions to examine dental professionals’ attitudes towards discussing the HPV vaccine in a dental setting and current HPV vaccine knowledge. An online survey engine was utilized to collect pre and post-survey feedback from participants. An informative class was conducted for dental professionals currently practicing at OCH to attend and learn about the HPV vaccine. An HPV information sheet was used to educate dental professionals on quick HPV facts. (See Appendix A for more information) At the conclusions of the informative class, data was collected on if the dental professionals thought their patient discussions around the HPV vaccine would increase after becoming more educated on the subject. The survey results indicate that increased HPV vaccine provider education increases the likelihood a dental professional will discuss the HPV vaccine with a patient. The results also provide a foundation to start an HPV vaccine administration program at One Community Health, in Oregon.
