As a new generation of bedroom producers and musicians attempt to get away from the laptops and computers that dominated the electronic music scene of the late 1990s and early 2000s, stand-alone electronic musical instruments such as synthesizers and drum machines are becoming more popular than ever. There is currently a resurgence of electronic musical instruments that are based on the hands-on, intuitive designs of an earlier era. Despite all of these options, there is a lack of devices that can be used to control and sequence all of this new electronic hardware. Many musicians are still stuck returning to a computer interface when they want to put together a performance or control more than one instrument at a time. The MIDI Step Sequencer is designed to address this need.
The MIDI Step Sequencer is a music composition and arrangement device that uses MIDI as a digital music communications protocol to communicate with other electronic music devices such as synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines. This product provides messages such as note on, note off, velocity, pitch, and parameter values that are stored and transmitted by the MIDI step sequencer. Through a simple button driven interface, the user can sequence rhythmic patterns arranged and stored as loops. These patterns can then be recalled, edited, and arranged on the fly in order to create complex musical arrangements. The MIDI step sequencer can be used for live performance, studio recording, or for simple backing tracks. This product will be marketed as a kit and sold online to DIY enthusiasts.
