For our junior project, our team developed FoodLens, a mobile application designed to help users easily identify allergens in branded food products. The app allows users to create a list of ingredients they are allergic to. When shopping, they can simply scan the UPC barcode of a food product, and the app will automatically retrieve ingredient information from the USDA Branded Food Products database. Once the data is retrieved, the app compares the product's ingredients to the user’s allergen list. If any matches are found, the app issues a clear alert, helping users make informed and safe choices in real time. This solution aims to reduce the burden on individuals with food allergies by simplifying the process of checking labels and identifying hidden ingredients.
