This project is an autonomous home device called the "Smart Window" that is intended to be a cheaper, energy conserving alternative or supplement to traditional air conditioning. The Smart Window relies on cooler weather during the night time to vent in cold air, lowering the room's temperature to a desired temperature set by the user via custom smartphone application. The Smart Window will automatically open and close shades, vent in and out air, and attempt to regulate the room temperature to the best of its ability. The efficiency of this project depends on the weather. Thus, the Smart Window will be most useful in moderate climates where nighttime temperature during the summer are low enough to be comfortable room temperature (or colder). This project utilized engineering principles in the electrical, renewable, mechanical, and software disciplines.
