KP-1735-R2 - Klamath Project. Picture at Sta. 59-10 of patched joint cracked through. Joints originally edged have opened considerably. Lining is badly fractured at several points by frost heave, with sections being displaced into the canal. Annual procedure is to repair joints and fractures by pouring sand cement mortar over cracks just prior to irrigation season, which seals joint temporarily for service. However, subjected to winter freezing with resultant heaving, the patching is completely destroyed. It is possible that mastic joint filler may withstand this action and reduce annual maintenance. This lining is situated in side hill cut through porous material where water tightness is essential; October 19, 1948; Photo by H. F. Tolley
